The original Wayfarer sunglasses were created by Ray-Ban in 1956 and became a popular choice of sunglasses for women in the 1950s and '60s. After a decline in the '70s to the point of near extinction, the Wayfarer saw a resurgence thanks to a deal to feature Ray-Ban sunglasses in TV shows and movies. (If you've ever felt inclined to slide across your hardwood floor in socks, an oxford and underwear, you know what we're talking about.) The Wayfarer is still a top choice today—and now you can get the lenses polarized or just pick up the frames to turn them into prescription sunglasses—along with other Ray-Ban icons like the Aviator and Clubmaster. Gucci and more brands are also creating their own versions of this classic style.
